Magic College / Re: The Meeting (y1054)

Kai, Stopper of Floods, Breaker of Storms, Sinker of Fleets, Incarnation of Pisces on Liphilius, of the Great Shark Tribe
Location: Arcadia, Celestialan Tower
Accompanying: Nawai'Ano Maikiki, Rain Maker, Drought Stopper, of the Great Shark Tribe; Oh, and the Eccentrique

Kai straightened up from his slouch at the mention of the previous leader's death. His brow furrowed. "I am Kai, Avatar of Pisces. What happened to Cryion?" He'd seemed fine at the last meeting Kai had attended. While that was several meetings past, the point stood. Sudden onset of illness was unlikely for a man who would be in contact with the best mages of all types in Liphilius.

Nes wrinkled her nose and gave a mock look of irritation as her husband hid his teasing comments amidst compliments. She watched as he so deftly poured her a glass and had only managed to take a sip when he pulled her close, forcing her to put the cup down and switch her attention to him. Mind you, it wasn’t such a hard task to be absorbed by him as he kissed along he cheek. She smiled gently and was about to playfully make a comment on ‘kicking’ when his lips trailed down to her throat. Eyes fluttering shut, she gave an appreciative groan and tilted her head to allow him more space but the door behind them opened and she shied away, her face still red as she acted nonchalant when Luna came in. Clearing her throat and gathering her expression before she turned around, she gave Luna a gentle smile while her eyes settled on the mass of fabrics in her arms. It warmed the woman to see her friend so excited about the baby and so dedicated to sewing for them.

With all the options presented to her in such a sudden fashion, Nesryn couldn’t help the overwhelmed feeling that seeped into her mind. It seemed so far away but she knew her day would come eventually and all this forward planning would benefit her. She stated blankly at the materials she offered up for a moment, hoping Dimitri would share his thoughts. When the all too convenient silence exuded from him, she rubbed the back of her neck.
“Uh... wouldn’t you say green and blue are the most neutral colours? Since we don’t know if the child shall be a boy or girl? Oh... I don’t really know. I supposed they would just wear clothes- hadn’t thought too hard on the colour...”
The offer to take her out to help pick out fabrics appealed to her a little, though she found she had grown more nervous to be away from Dimitri lately. The ex-assassin shook this feeling of and gave the woman a nod.
“That sounds lovely... I’m sure with your guidance we will pick some beautiful fabrics. I’ll be right with you in a moment” she turned once more to Dimitri and moved into his space to cuddle him as best she could with her awkward stomach.
Save me. I have no clue on fabrics.” she said pleasantly in Sandadin, the conversation seeming loving and sweet.[/i] A tight hug and she let go, going to gather her shoes and basket to go with Luna.

Malachi watched the exchange anxiously but with that placid look on his face. Everything was going mostly well. Of course he knew his mother would never outrightly be rude or decisive he wasn’t sure what things held in the long term. The fact she’d only critiqued his friends eyes and clothes was a blessing from the All-Mother as he had witnessed that Maaylithia was quite ruthless in private when it came to her opinion of others. He was glad when they were left to their own devices until dinner.
The affectionate name made Mal smile and he gave a nod, “Of course. How silly of me not to offer that- My mind’s in a bit of frazzled with us being home. Here come-“

The Hythian castle is a large and intimidating structure of white stone and tall spires but of course when one had learned to walk in its halls it becomes less of a maze. The structure somewhat resembled a cross inside a square. The main tower containing the dining halls, lavish ballrooms and larger spaces where the north, south, east and west towers/wings housed private quarters and the smaller places.
Mal led Eir first to the north tower.
“I think this might become your favourite place quickly as you learn our language...” he smiled at his friend as they stood on the bottom floor looking up. The library occupied most of the North tower, starting on the bottom floor and lining the round walls all the way to the ceiling. A gap in the wood at the second level of the library allowed one to peer all the way up. Of course it had railing to prevent an unfortunate accident, but even to Mal who had scaled the stairs many times, it made him a little queasy.
“The Hythian libraries... Generations of collections. My father had that large hole cut in the floor as part of the renovations when he became Lord of Phonax when his father died. He said it held a special place in his heart...”
Which now Mal said it aloud, it seemed odd because his father never spent very long in the library.

The South wing held both Malachi, Mathias and Eir’s quarters were where they quickly changed before the tour continued to the West tower where the kitchens were and the East tower where his mothers and fathers room was located. Each tower was complete at its highest point with access to the antichamber. Small rooms with a generous view of the gardens below. After the long and winding trip, they arrived at the centre once more now standing outside the closed dining hall doors.
“It seems a maze now, but I promise it’ll get better. Any questions?”
Malachi had chatted away nonstop as they wandered, unable to help the excitement of welcoming his friend to the home he’d told him about.

Dimitri felt fear run through him as his wife pulled off a kick she surely shouldn’t have been doing while pregnant. While he was grateful for her continuing to teach him self-defense, he was not keen on her over straining herself. In the recent months she began showing more, her stomach swelling and her fatigue rising with it. Even now, she was winded from an action she had done thousands of times before, as shown by how seamlessly she executed it. With all her huffing and puffing he was thinking of begging her to rest, but held his tongue when she ordered him to do the kick again. He could do one more to satisfy her, but right after he would immediately request she sit down.
He tried again, this time putting more force behind it but it still wasn’t quite high enough. He stumbled, his foot catching in the grass and making him almost face plant before his wife. While not ideal in the slightest, his fumbling at least made her come up with the idea of break instead of him suggesting it. She was determined and stubborn as ever, even with the baby, and insisted on being as independent and normal as possible until she couldn’t. Even the skirts had been a big change, one she didn’t seem pleased with at all, although she looked rather cute in them. Even with the extra fabric she was still as nimble as he usually saw her, a feat that impressed him as she collected her knives and went about dealing with her hair. That was until she was thwarted by the bench as she went for some water.
Dimitri had to bite his lip to stifle a chuckle and grin at how adorable she looked, as he was sure she would call him an ass. Instead he smiled as he moved beside her with the glass, pulling the pitcher to himself to pour her a drink.
“You really are something, Nes. With child and still able to kick my ass and the ass of probably every man on this island. Except the pesky benches of course, that’s what I’m for.” He teased as he pulled her in, leaning a bit to kiss along her cheek and then neck. Perhaps it wasn’t proper but lately he felt as though his heart and life were full and he couldn’t help his wonder and excitement. Cuddling up to her and being playful was a good outlet, even if any proximity really was what he wanted.
He was forced to pull away when Luna came in with some fabric, her eyes bright and excited as she showed them off to Nesryn. Dimitri did keep a hand on her back as Luna seemed almost ready to jump for joy. “Oh Nesryn I saw the most darling fabrics today and couldn’t resist. Now tell me, would you rather a babies frock made of blue, green, or pink?.” She was in a sewing fever lately as she had foreseen the baby back in the early stages of their courtship. She didn’t tell them, of course, in case the dates or stars didn’t align properly but it seemed fate smiled upon them.
Dimitri looked at the frilly fabrics and gave an internal grimace as that was not his forte. He instead had secretly been securing the help of Bryer to make a crib for the child, as a surprise gift for Nesryn. While Eir might have been a logical choice, the man couldn’t keep a secret well and Bryer was still figuring out trades and the like. Also, Dimitri promised to give him time to chat with the carpenter’s son, who’s shop they were using.
He simply took a sip of water himself before glancing at Nesryn for an answer. Luna noted Dimitri’s lack of comment and rose a brow at it. She pondered in silence before she then brightened at an idea.
“Ah Nesryn! Unless you wish to shop with me? We could find a lovely set of fabrics for a lovely baby blanket?” Luna asked with a softer smile, knowing this wasn’t really the assassin’s forte.

"Of course I'll have your back, Asena. Through anything." Septimus smiled lightly and kissed her on the head before stepping away. "Here, let's see what is suitable to be picked for tonight's dinner, shall we?"

Nesryn was relieved when Dimitri finally seemed the comprehend the situation and embraced her very gently. She smiled and rested against him happily as he stammered and held her. It was going to be okay, and she’d happily put up with her ‘stomach bug’ for as long as it lasted. When he pulled away to jokingly reprimand Eir for his efforts, Nesryn’s eyes glittered with tears and she gladly took the tea and sipped from it carefully, hand still linked with Dimitri’s and his hand still resting on her stomach. She smiled at the subconscious action and felt the warmth of not just the tea flood her being.
“Mmmm, but his healers efforts are worthy of praise. This tea has practically taken away the nausea”
Her expression softened from humor to greatfullness as he went on to tell her that the baby seemed quite well. A strong heart... she nodded and finished the remainder of her tea.
“Again... thank you Eir and I’m sorry for yet another late night drama. You’re help has brought me comfort”
When the drake left, Nesryn sat aside her tea cup and settled back down onto the bed, looking up at Dimitri with an awed smile. Her heart was full and she felt much more at ease now that he knew the cause and she was certain the baby was healthy.
Hearts Fire, come to me. Let’s try and get some rest before the sun forces us out of bed again, mmm?” she gave his hand a tug and settled into bed beside him, her arms around him as she drifted off wearily.

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

Nesryn puffed and pushed her rapidly growing hair out of her face, trying to tie it back. She’d need to cut it again soon as she wouldn’t be able to keep tying it up and behind her head so much. Even now she felt a little winded by the action. Well, that was reasonable since she had just demonstrated a kind of rounded kick to Dimitri despite his worried expression.
“If-“ she gave a huff and steadied her breathing again “I don’t show you the right way, you’ll throw a hip. Now go again but how I showed you.”
She stood back a little, hand on the more prominent bump as she eyed him critically. He tried once more to execute the move but Nesryn gave a sigh.
“You’re distracted. Lunch time?” she suggested. She gave him a reassuring pat on the arm as she bent to collect the blades they’d been practicing with to lean them against the wall. Eir had already advised her that some ‘gentle physical activity’ was good for both mother and baby. In Nesryn’s mind swordplay, knife throwing and basic hand to hand combat were light. She wasn’t jumping across rooftops or scaling walls like she could or normally would.
Thirsty, she moved to pour herself water from the pitcher in the corner, giving her bump a rueful look when it surprised her by preventing her from getting within arms reach of the handle.
“Mitri? Could you reach that-“ she tried again and her stomach pressed against the bench and still prevented her shorter height from reaching it.
It was a few months since the news had been revealed and everyone was so kind and happy toward them. Luna definitely seemed excited by the prospect of a little one running around, Bryer was dubious at first but grew more excited as he talked about what he was going to teach his little ‘nephew’ Nesryn had laughed when Bryer claimed he was going to be an uncle to their child. A fact hard to believe since he was still young and immature himself. Though it was nice to see him excited. The assassin had been restricted to loosely fitting skirts as her belly made her dresses and pants too tight. A change she often cursed as she was not able to navigate herself as agilely as she would normally.

Glaperan Confederacy / Re: Brothers (Malachi & Eir'Asa)
« Last post by Kimcora on January 01, 2021, 12:47:30 am »
As the Lady spoke, Eir offered her his full attention. His mother’s coaching in private about the Hythians had been quite astute. Maaylithia Hythian was beautiful and carried herself with the grace a lady of a territory commanded, but she was also able to backup her colder candor with her quick whit and poise. Even her words were flowery and poetic, much like Malachi’s had a tendency of being when he was in social situations requiring more tact. It was quite different from his own people who were blunt and often candid with their remarks. But he would get used to it and had practiced his expressions enough on that philanthropic trip he and Malachi made to keep a pleased smile while dealing with her. Warmth and kindness as he would with patients within the temple...
He was about to ask questions about what she meant by the winter setting in as it never got cold enough near the shores for Glapera to see snow outside of the mountains. He was excited by the newness and what lay in his future, but found the woman keen on getting off the streets. As was understandable, it was a bit chilly out here.
As servants scurried past to collect his things, he thanked them quietly unused to dealing with staff outside his own family’s who practically raised him. But once the thanks were done, his eyes were drawn to a magnificent carriage that looked more opulent than what even his own family owned. It shocked him briefly that they would be riding in something like that that glittered so in the light, but Malachi woke him from that surprise with a few words of encouragement. He took Malachi’s encouragement as he needed it under the ever watchful gaze of Lady Hythian...
The ride in the carriage after Malachi helping his mother inside was followed by a silence as Eir watched the streets out the window. It was better than making eye contact with his mother or the woman beside her as he was sure that would be awkward for everyone involved if his eyes were so off putting. Eir wasn’t sure who the other woman was. Malachi never mentioned a sister and she didn’t favor either Hythian. Maybe she was a niece or a cousin? He wasn’t sure if he was even allowed to ask her name as she hadn’t spoken. Perhaps it was best to let Malachi fill in the blanks later while alone.
His attention was drawn back to the family as they spoke on winter and even a strange ritual with skating on ice. He had never heard of such a thing but found the very idea intruiging.
“I would very much like to try it. We don’t see snow or ice on our shores, or cold really. I can’t wait to see it actually.” He admitted, trying to not show just how excited he was as everything here seemed so subdued with ones emotions.
While the expressions were subdued, the decoration and beauty of the Hythian estate certainly wasn’t. Eir found himself speechless at the high spires and the white stone that looked almost cold to the touch. It was impressive and so different from the warm and vibrant colors of his homeland. Eir hadn’t seen a stitch of rich reds or purples anywhere, let alone any golds. Instead he found the pretty, calming blues and silvers that reminded him of the waters outside.
“Stunning...” Was all Eir could mutter to Lady Hythian’s gesture of reveal, his eyes flicking to Malachi as if to confirm this was where he lived.
However, it seemed that Malachi was curious about where the rest of his family was. It seemed Malachi’s father was busy with work and his brother was perhaps as well? Eir was confused they did not mention any elders but he assumed that meant they had passed? He wasn’t sure so he did not bring it up. Instead he gave Lady Hythian a shake of his head at her apology.
“Oh there’s no need for an apology. I’m sure Lord Hythian is quite busy as my father is as of late. The end of the trade season is always the most busy.” He said before he caught her look at his clothing. It was strange how much her looks mirrored his grandmother. So this is how outsiders felt when dealing with Elder Aluanas? Eir gestured to the outfit, considered quite opulent in his home, but understood it was strange and colorful here. “And of course, Lady Hythian. Malachi helped me organize and bring along a few things from my family’s tailor to be sure I am dressed for such occasions.” He admitted to the woman, sparing his friend a small smirk in remembering how lost the poor woman had been while trying to sift through her fabrics and cutting templates for the sort of outfits Eir would be expected to wear there. Even so, they would hardly be a match for the cold when it began and he knew he would have to go shopping for more.
He folded his hands behind his back, fidgeting with his fingers as his nerves made the becomings of scales form on his palms. He knew there was no need to be nervous but he really did wish to make a good impression with Malachi’s family as Malachi had with his own. If the families were work together in the future and support consistent trade then they would need a firm alliance in place. Eir was just as much responsible for preserving such an alliance as Malachi was for his family...
“Before dinner, might I get a tour, Isthasy? I want to see where my dear friend grew up.” He asked Malachi, using the term for brother in Vs’Shtak as he was sure it was okay. It was how he often referred to Malachi back home and here his family wouldn’t even know what it meant. It was something that grounded him, made him feel a bit less as an outsider to have someone that understood him. Perhaps then he could ask Malachi how he could warm his family up to him and make the best impression at dinner.

Dimitri was feeling his worry consuming his thought, worrying him past the point he was able to read the signs. Eir was being vague, Nesryn was in the throws of some illness, and he was left to push for discernment and understanding. He was trying to get her to stand and dress as carefully as he could when she put a hand to his cheek. It was her usual action to calm him that he became accustomed to. Normally it would work, but her following words quickly made that calm burst into flames. The soft plea to sit made his stomach plummet, his body tensing as he felt his knees growing weak. He sat heavily on the bed, his eyes casting to the floor a moment. What was this news that Nesryn could have to share? Was her illness really just some bug? Or was it truly a debilitating illness? Would she be in constant pain like this? Or would she pass from it?
He felt his fear surging, making him struggle to remember to breathe, let alone think. If he lost her, what would he do? He couldn’t imagine—
She spoke again, drawing his eyes to her as she said she kept this form him in case something happened to her. Or something didn’t eventuate—what was she talking about? His mind felt like it was caught in a whirlwind, his own hands gripping her’s as if to steady himself. He braced himself for news that would shake his world. And he was not wrong or disappointed. The news hit   harder then he expected, hard enough that his mind ran blank and he felt frozen a moment. Caught in his own mind for far longer than he intended. This mysterious illness was only a mystery to him it seemed. Nesryn was pregnant. Actually with child. He had hoped eventually they would have a child, but he didn’t allow the hope to really sit in his mind long. There was always the chance that it couldn’t happen and yet...somehow some fate found a way. He was amazed and overwhelmed by the idea, enough so that words escaped him and he felt a bit lightheaded.
He realized he was in stunned silence too long when she spoke again in Duthl, reaffirming the news and placing his hands where their child was. That jump started his mind, his expression falling into affection and care as he let his hand settle properly and the other on her cheek. “Nesryn...” A smile pulled at his lips, a grin so bright it almost hurt. “We’re going to be parents—You’re going to be a mother! Me—a father—!“ He stammered as his elation consumed him. He would have kissed her had she not been vomiting only moments ago. So instead he pulled her into an embrace, being careful as to not make it too tight. “I love you—our baby—both of you!” He chuckled at his own jittery state, especially when Eir came back in and cleared his throat.
“I suppose congratulations are in order for the happy couple. I come bearing gifts.” He said as he raised the tea cup with the ginger and lemon concoction and handed it to Nesryn.
“Upset stomach...Terrible healer.” Dimitri teased, his mood greatly improved as Eir could tell. He shot Dimitri a look, pursing his lips a little in irritation.
“I was not wrong. She isn’t stricken with plague nor is she terminal. The baby’s heart is healthy and strong by the way. Had me thinking you were having a heart attack.” Eir told Nesryn as he moved back to let the pair calm after all the quick anxiety between them.

Maaylithia watched as Eir gave his formal bow and greeting, being in line with the formal greeting of their people. It would seem Malachi had been teaching him a few things if his rudimentary Sandarin was anything to go by. She quickly covered her snubbish look with a tight smile of welcome. With a wave of her hand most of the servants scuttled off to grab their things, only her handmaiden- who still eyed Eir curiously -remained at her side.
“I’m glad my dear son has been able to describe at least some of the beauties of our land, though I’m sure over the next year you will find many more. The All-Mother has blessed us greatly with a good harvest this year and soon the cold shall be setting in. Enough of that though- I’m sure you’re all exhausted and would like to get home”
She gestured with her hand to a lavish carriage that was coated in silver leaf and painted in rich blues; clearly a Hythian carriage. Maaylthia moved gracefully toward it as if her steps simply floated, only pausing for a pointed enough silence that had Mal rushing to open the door and help her in. He gave Eir a sheepish look and a shrug, moving by his side to whisper “You’re doing well my friend. Your Sandarin was practically-“
“Are you two boys coming or must we dawdle by the Portside forever, mmm? Chop chop”
Her accent was heavy with the rolls and grace of their natural language and it took Malachi a moment to readjust his mind to understand. Surely he hadn’t been in Glapera so long that even his mother’s voice sounded foreign.
Malachi gestured up into the carriage for Eir to sit by him. It was the four of them inside now; Lafy Hythian, her hand aided, Eir and Mal.
I had been telling Eir’Asa about the snow during this type of year”
She nodded and smiled, “We freeze the lake by the great market square for people to skate on. It’s quite quaint really. More of a commoner thing of course-“
“But I’m sure we can try it” Mal interjected quickly.

Before long they reached the Hythian Mansion. It was a tall and intimidating structure made out of a very pale stone. Graceful columns lined the front of the building atop a dias of stairs. It almost looked as though the place were made of ice and snow. The gardens out the front were minimal and bore many gentle water features alongside Lily’s and luscious plants. The servants came behind them with their things into the great entry way.
If the Alunanas household was warm and bold, the decor of the Hythian house was cold and peaceful. Large white staircases, crystal chandeliers and the drapes that hung about in Hythian blue and silver.
“Welcome” Maaylithia began, gesturing around proudly. She was responsible for the styling of the mansion and took pride in the way she managed to liven up the old heirloom of a house.
“Where is father?” Mal asked. He’d expected that the male might make an appearance at their arrival but highly doubted it.
Maaylithia gave a tight smile and patted her son firmly on the back, “He’s busy at the moment-“ she looked to Eir in apology “Sorry for his rudeness but you shall meet him at dinner. Make sure you’re both dressed appropriately...”
Her eyes trailed the Glaperan style robes they both wore with a distant air of distaste.

The past week or so had been rough on the woman as sickness, cravings and an aching back kept her in a poorer condition. She’d even noticed, one morning in a moment staring at herself in the mirror that her stomach was beginning to swell. Nothing really noticeable of course, it honestly could pass for being bloated as it was too early, but the sight had given her hope none the less. She’d made another rushed visit to the temple as her chest and stomached aches out of fear that something was wrong. The women there had done more to soothe her worried and fears of miscarriage than actually assisting with the nausea. From what they said the severity of it varied by pure luck.

Nesryn could really only passively listen as Eir and Dimitri hurried back in. Her cheeks burned a little with the embarrassment at having to be so reliant and weak but she figure she’d lay down her pride if it were for the health of her child. She sat up a little as he moved to her bedside and moved aside the coverlet to allow him to observe her. She was tense as he would discover what she’d done well to cover over the past month or so and there was nothing she could really do to prevent that. Wearily she just relaxed against her pillows, trying to focus on not letting the nausea grab hold of her again. When the magis trailed lower to her abdomen, she chewed the inside of her cheek as Eir paused and became puzzled. His eyes darted to hers in genuine shock and surprise before he quickly masked that expression. So he’d realised what was going on... It was obvious by Nesryn’s returned look that she knew. She would have to tell Dimitri now especially since Eir would-
She blinked in surprise as he didn’t reveal the exact cause of her sickness and was only partially aware of the argument between the two men that ensued because her head was once more over the bucket.
The feeling of Dimitri’s worried hands thing back her hair made her sigh and she sat up properly while Eir went out to grab whatever herbal remedy he had for the morning sickness. The worry on her lovers face sobered her up and she decided that it wasn’t fair to keep him in the dark any longer. As he tried to gently hustle her awake fully, she looked up at him gently and put a hand to his cheek.
Hearts Fire, I have something important to tell you...” she began in Sandarin before pausing and patting the bed next to her for him to sit. The sudden increase of fear in his eyes spurred her to finish her explanation before he threw up.
“I had not wanted to tell you earlier in case something happened and... I wasn’t sure I’d be able to handle your pain if it didn’t eventuate or something happened to me-“ she took a small shaky breath and smiled at him gently, taking his hands into hers “Dimitri... I’m pregnant. We’re going to have a baby”
She bit her lip a little, expectation for his reaction building within her. He seemed stunned and the silence stretched on. For a moment she thought that in his frazzled state he simply couldn’t understand the Sindarin and she quickly translated a second time.
“I’m pregnant Dimitri. You’re going to be a father.”
She carefully moved his hand and placed it above where she knew their child to be.
